Qingdao, China Racing went on hold today for Day Three of sailing’s 2007 Olympic Test Event, the 2007 Good Luck Beijing International Regatta. Reason: lack of wind. With three days of this regatta behind us, we’ve only raced one, and completed only two races.
Very wisely, the Race Committee hoisted the postponement signals early in the day. They headed out on the oily waters of Fushan Bay on a futile weather watch but kept us ashore and spared us a long, sun-baked and humid day on the water. In the Olympic village, 400 sailors spread out and did their thing. We took the opportunity to work on the boat and after that we sat around in the heat. Others took refuge from the hottest part of the day in the air-conditioned cafeteria, in air-conditioned containers or under tents and umbrellas. Now we’re waiting to hear how the remaining race time will be scheduled. You can bet everyone will be crowding the official notice board tomorrow morning for schedule changes. Complicating things still further, the forecast for tomorrow is not encouraging with the possibility of even less wind. We’ll have to wait and see. Racing will finish on Thursday, August 23. The latest results from Qingdao will be at Tornado Pre-Olympic Results as soon as they become available. Also, be sure to visit our website at www.t-squaredracing.com.
