No Wind, No Racing PDF  | Print |  E-mail

Auckland, NZ
February 27, 2008

Tomorrow, Thursday, was supposed to be a lay day at the 2008 International Tornado World Championship sailed off Takapuna Beach on the Hauraki Gulf. However we got our day off from racing today when a fickle and fitful southerly collapsed to a near calm.

The race committee did a great job of minimizing our time on the water. We went out for our scheduled 1:00 pm start but the committee sent us back to the beach 40 minutes later. We took the time ashore to shoot the breeze and catch up with friends until 4:30 when the committee cancelled racing for the day.

We’re now expected to sail two races tomorrow but with a high pressure cell centered offshore just to the west of Auckland the prospects don’t look too promising. The forecast calls for variable breeze in the morning, trending to an onshore northeast breeze at 10 knots in the afternoon.

Our host club for this event is the Takapuna Boating Club. You can download full results at Takapuna Tornado Worlds. We want to acknowledge all the support from our sponsor, Advanced Equities.

Sail fast,

Johnny Lovell & Charlie Ogletree - Team Advanced Equities I
